In support of a discussion elsewhere on this site about Turning Complexity into Productivity, this application reduces the number of steps to accomplish a simple task. Using LunaTagGEN, you can transfer a Pocket Outlook Contact directly from your device to a colleague's simply by having them read the Tag created and displayed on your phone.

You could email your contact information to them but that would entail opening your contact list, selecting your specific contact and then clicking on the menu to select the option to email. Of course, you are not done yet. Now you must type in the person's email address (and perhaps the subject) before your ready to send. You could use SMS or MMS but each of those require additional steps as well.

With LunaTagGEN you simply select Contact and Pocket Outlook opens to your contact list. You select yourself as a contact (or any other contact in your list) and that's it. In a few seconds a Microsoft Tag is downloaded and displayed on screen. The recipient simply snaps the Tag using the Microsoft Tag reader and the reader will retrieve the information and offer to save the contact on their device. It is just that simple. You also save steps for the person receiving the information since they would receive an email and have to open the attachment before the process would continue.

While the application allows you select and transfer any contact in your list, if your primary intent was to display you own contact information, then you could run the process once and simply keep the application open and retain the display in the background. Using LunaTagGEN in this fashion is a simple way to replace your paper business card and ensure the information is always up to date. To see the application in action, you can watch the video on our Microsoft Tag Video page or to try the application for yourself you can obtain it here.

Furthermore, since the receiver can add the information to their list with so little effort the chances are greater that they will retain your information. When you hand out a paper business card, you are actually introducing work into the recipients life. While it is not that much work to enter a single contact, you can be sure that when a person returns from a conference or meeting with a stack of 50 business cards, only some will make it into their contact list. So if it is worth your time and effort to present someone with your contact information, you might consider that making it easier for them to add you as a contact might ensure they retain it.

Some people have electronic card readers to read in paper business cards and the real important people have assistants to perform this task but in either case making the transfer through Microsoft Tag eliminates the workload completely. Given the potential for widespread use, an attributable cost savings through the elimination of printed business cards would accrue. So, somewhere in the equation this amounts to an increase in productivity; either by the reduction in workload, cost or both. And this also a "Green" solution insofar as significant adoption would reduce the use of paper.

While we anticipate that the LunaTagGEN application will, by some small degree, increase the utility of Windows Mobile devices, no one should lose sight of the fact that the functionality is an extension of the underlying technology of Microsoft Tag. More to the point, the technology is not simply about "snapping a tag and going to a website"; especially since, in the instant case, there is no website to go to. Tag just facilitates process, reducing complexity and improving productivity.
