LunaTagGEN Styled is an alternative method to create a custom Microsoft Tag. It is not the only way but it certainly is the quickest. If you want more control over your result you may choose to manage each step of the process; however, if you want a head start this is the way to go.

As described in his video on "How to Create a Custom Tag", the HCCB inventor Gavin Jancke describes the following steps.

• Create a Tag with your account at the Microsoft Tag site.
• Selecting windows meta-file(wmf) as the file type, your desired size and “Custom” as the type of file to render.
• Save the resulting image to your hard drive.
• Open the saved file using a program like PowerPoint.
• Open and insert an image file to use as the background image.
• Resize the background image to match the area returned Tag image.
• Make sure to fit the background into the transparent area of the Tag image.
• Choose Select All and then group both images together.
• Choose Save As to save your image in the file type you want.

At this point you are now ready to use the newly created image in a graphics program to make modifications or add additional elements to your custom Tag.

• Enter your URL and upload your background image file.
• Click “Create Custom Tag”

Just as above you are now ready to begin any additional modifications. It doesn't do all the work. You will still have to use good photo editing software to create really great custom tags but this reduces the number of steps to get you started and also offers a quicker way to test concepts. One caveat though, since the dimensions of the transparent area of a Tag are close to square, the best results occur when your background image is square. If your background image is not square to start, you should consider croping the image to get the best results.

Verification is Always Recommended

While you can find other instructions elsewhere, the quickest way to determine if your phone is able to verify a custom Tag, is to simply open the Microsoft Tag Reader on your phone and type the numeric sequence 01122. If verification works with your phone, the action icons will disappear and a letter 'V' will appear. Then when you point your phone at a tag, instead of resolving the image a coloured square will appear around the Tag. If the square is green then the Tag is verified. If there is an error the square will not be green and red circles will appear around any offending dots.
