TAG's inherent ability to expire is invaluable in the coupon model.
Just like all coupons, TAGs offer the opportunity for the manufacturers, distributors and retailers to create instantaneous discounts in an effort increase product sales. However, TAGs offer much, much more.
Without even considering coupons or campaigns or especially discounts, just adding a TAG to your product to provide additional information, means that you also have the ability to offer coupons later, at any time in any way, just by changing what information is returned to the reader.
Consider how to manage a quick campaign. You can offer a discount to a limited number of customers, or limit the period. The product's TAG is temporarily redirected, providing a customer with a discount coupon. The coupon is presented to the retailer at the point of sale. It also carries a key or number used by the retailer for compensation. Once the allotted number of coupons is reached, the action of the TAG can be returned to its original state.
The logistics of campaigns will no longer require the same lead-time and planning. Furthermore, the statistics and metrics are immediate - no waiting and there is a savings from the elimination of printing coupons. There are only minimal distribution costs. A simple redirection of the TAGs URL and voila, you have a digital coupon that you can turn on or off at will. All made possible just by adding a TAG on the original product. There are costs involved; relating to the discount and the service to manage the redemption of the coupons but these are offset by the instantaneous metrics and adaptability.
Additionally, you can take advantage of the fact that TAGs can become viral. People can send their contents to their friends and those friends can in turn pass them along, and so on and so on. Discounts can expire or be open ended or anything in between. As a manufacturer, you may have a new model coming out and want to ensure previous stock is moved, so as not to impede new orders. In that case, you may not want to have an expiry, or you may want to increase a discount as time goes on. Whatever the case may be, you have complete control over the process.
