LunaTagGen Accelerators FAQ
Capture information from any desktopLunaTagGen for URLs creates and displays a Microsoft Tag on anyone's desktop using IE8. The tag created will allow anyone with the Microsoft Tag reader software on their mobile device to connect to the web page that the URL represents.
LunaTagGen for TEXT creates and displays a Microsoft Tag on anyone's desktop using IE8. The tag created will allow anyone with the Microsoft Tag reader software on their mobile device to capture the selected text on their device.
Both LunaTagGen accelerators work the same way. Depending on whether you have selected a hyperlink or a block of text, when you right-click the appropriate accelerator will appear on the menu. Click the accelerator and the service will create and display the Tag in a new page.
Anyone who reads the Tag on their mobile phone will be redirected to the website in the case of a hyperlink or will capture the text that was selected. On our Microsoft Tag Videos page you can watch a demonstration of the accelerators in action.
When you decide to install the LunaTagGen for URLs accelerator, a dialog will appear asking you to confirm your selection. At this time, we suspect this will be your first and perhaps only URL Tag generator and we suggest you check the checkbox to set it as the default for this class of accelerators. That way it will appear on the first pop-up context menu.
When you decide to install the LunaTagGen for TEXT accelerator, a dialog will appear asking you to confirm your selection. At this time, we suspect this will be your first and perhaps only URL Tag generator and we suggest you check the checkbox to set it as the default for this class of accelerators. That way it will appear on the first pop-up context menu.
After selecting some text, right-click to open the context menu and then select LunaTagGen for TEXT.
In a few seconds a new page will open with displaying Microsoft Tag.
In the image to the right we use a Windows Mobile 6.1 device running the Microsoft Tag software to capture the tag. If you look closely you can verify that it is the same Tag.
Just below that image you can see the resulting text that was returned by the captured Tag. You may have to zoom in a bit but you can see that the text is the same as was selected above. Of course text is text, so there is no formatting. We'll leave that for a future project.
There are no options per se; however, you can manage all your accelerators from the Manage Add-ons dialog that can be reached by selecting "All Accelerators" and then "Manage Accelerators..." from the Context Menu.
In the resulting Dialog, you can enable/disable any accelerator and you can set one accelerator in each group to be the default. When you do this that accelerator will appear in the first context menu when you right-click on the appropriate item in Internet Explorer.
Microsoft Tags can last forever but they can also be set to expire. Since the intent of the LunaTagGen accelerators is to transfer information from one device to another, once the transfer is complete the tag has fulfilled its purpose and the information they point to can be deleted. Ultimately, tags created in this disposable manner could be expired in hours or minutes but for now they will be disposed of regularly and in no case should you expect them to last longer than the current day.
You can save and reuse these tags; however, we have set them to expire on a regular basis and you should not expect them to work for longer than the current day. We consider transerring information from a desktop to a mobile device to be a disposable event and have designed the system accordingly.
Although there is no cost for Tags during the present beta, this may change in the future and most likely time will be amongst the factors that determine the cost. Therefore, it follows that Tags used for the purpose of data transfer, need not be maintain more than a few minutes.
However, creating Microsoft Tags this quickly may have benefits not anticipated by us or Mirosoft. If your interest is to create a link to keep for long term use, you may not need all the facilities that an account with the Microsoft Tag Service provides and so depending on any feedback, we may extend the lifetime or issue additional or replacement accelerators with longer or no expiry attached.
If you wanted to keep a specific tag for a longer period of time you can create one on this site, using our LunaTagGen web page utility or you can get your own Microsoft Tag account - they are free.
If you only want to try it out, you can use our utilities but if you want to use your Tags for any business purpose, it makes sense to set up your own account.
The data you send is transmitted to and stored on the Microsoft Tag service until expired. During the time the data is live on the service it is subject to the terms and conditions as outlined by Microsoft in their Terms of Use.
While we would not anticipate that information that you would select from w web site would have any confidentiality, neither Microsoft, nor Luna Development make any claims of privacy of the information transmitted. Information carried along with the text or hyperlink is no different that that which would be transmitted when you click on such a link and so similar elections with respect to privacy must be conceded by the user.
There are no costs for using either LunaTagGen for URL of LunTagGEN for TEXT and Microsoft Tag is currently free to use. However, when you use a mobile device to read the Tag your carrier may charge you for the data that is transferred or other data usage.
