LunaTagGEN for Mobile FAQ
Display a Microsoft Tag on your phoneLunaTagGEN for Mobile creates and displays a Microsoft Tag on your Windows Mobile 6 Professional device.
In the beta release there are 2 different types of tags you can create; a Pocket Outlook Contact tag and a password protected Free-Text tag that we call a Secret Message.
Instead of using a paper business card or typing in an address to email your information, simply generate the contact information as a tag right on your phone. That way anyone with the Microsoft Tag reader software can read your tag and choose to store the information directly.
At present, the application runs only on Windows Mobile 6.0 (or greater) Professional.
The LunaTagGEN beta is available to anyone who has Microsoft Tag installed on their Windows Mobile 6 Professional device. Simply click the link LunaTagGEN for Mobile on the right of this page and then Snapp the tag you find on that page. The application will download automatically and offer to install it on your device.
This application requires that the .Net Compact Framework 3.5 be installed.
The beta status may stay in place until Microsoft Tag’s beta status changes. However, updates to the beta are anticipated as new features are authorized.
When you select “Contact” from the menu, Pocket Outlook will open. Select one of your Contacts from your list and LunaTagGEN will do the rest. In a few seconds, depending on your type of internet connection, a tag will display on screen.
When you select “Secret Message” from the menu, a form will open allowing you to type in a password and your message. When complete, select “Create Tag” and LunaTagGEN will do the rest. In a few seconds, depending on your type of internet connection, a tag will display on screen.
Microsoft Tags can last forever but they can also be set to expire. Since the intent of LunaTagGEN is to transfer information from one device to another, once the transfer is complete the tag has fulfilled its purpose and the information they point to can be deleted. Ultimately, tags created in this disposable manner could be expired in hours or minutes but for now they will be disposed of regularly and in no case should you expect them to last longer than the current day
If your intent is to display your own contact information at an event, you could create one on your device and keep the application open in the background (choosing not to close the application) for the duration of the event. However, since it takes less time to create a new tag than to read the last sentence, you could also create them as needed.
If you wanted to keep a specific tag for a longer period of time you can create one on this site.
Saving a tag on your device is not enabled in the current beta.
The data you send is transmitted to and stored on the Microsoft Tag service until expired. During the time the data is live on the service it is subject to the terms and conditions as outlined by Microsoft in their Terms of Use.
No. Not in the current beta version. In a future release we anticipate making this option available.
The beta version of LunaTagGEN for Mobile and Microsoft Tag are currently free to use. However, your mobile carrier may charge you for the data that is transferred or other data useage.
